Making free calls without spending a penny is that possible? Well, let’s explore the possibilities with which you can stay connected with your family and friends on your Android smartphone and have long hours of free calls without spending costly bucks.
1. You can make free calls with Whatsapp
Web services like WhatsApp have not given us the freedom to stay in touch with our relatives through free text messaging, but also introduced voice and video calling over the years. WhatsApp Calling lets you call your contacts using WhatsApp for free, even if they’re in another country. Currently, WhatsApp Calling is available on Android, iPhone and Windows Phone.
WhatsApp Calling uses your phone’s Internet connection rather than your cellular plan’s voice minutes. Data charges though may apply.
But note that you can’t access 911 and other emergency service numbers through WhatsApp. You must make alternative communication arrangements to make emergency calls.
To make a WhatsApp call, simply open the chat with the person you want to call and tap the phone button on top. So this means that person who you wish to call should be using Whatsapp also.
When someone calls you, you will see an incoming WhatsApp call screen. You can tap and slide the green button to answer the call or slide the red button to decline the call. Alternatively, you can tap the message icon on the call screen to decline the call with a quick message.
To switch a call to a video call, you and your contact should be on a voice call. If one person taps the video call button, the other person will see a request to switch to a video call. Once the other person accepts, the call will be switched to a video call.
To switch back to a voice call, you and your contact should be on a video call. If one person taps the button to turn the video off, the other person will be notified. Once the other person turns their video off, the call will be switched back to a voice call.
2. Make free calls with Skype
Skype to Skype calls are free but to call an Android cell phone or landline from Skype, you need a little Skype Credit or a subscription.
Find the person or group you want to call from your contact list, or use Search.
Select the contact you want to call, and then either make an audio call: Select the call button or make a video call: Select the video call button. You can also make a group call: Select the new icon or menu button or three dots on Android to Add participants, then select the call or video button. Select the group avatar to create a name for your group or to add a group picture. At the end of your call, select the end call button to hang up.
3. Make free calls with Google Duo
Google Duo allows you to make a video call only for free. Rather than basing it on your Google account or your email, it’s tied to your phone number, making it easier for you to chat with the contacts that are already on your phone. Google launched Duo on Google Play and on iOS so you can chat with friends on Android and Apple. Simply Tap Video Call, Select the person you’d like to call from your contacts or type in the number you’d like to reach, Duo will call your contact, making your video visible with Knock Knock, To end your call, tap the red phone button in the bottom center of your screen.
4. Make free calls with Hangouts Dialer
Unlike all of the other free calling apps out there, the Hangouts Dialer app does not require the receiver to have the app installed as well. For instance, if you want to call a customer service number in Canada or call someone up on their office number, Hangouts Dialer can do it without a hiccup.
Similar to Skype, Google Hangouts Dialer also requires you to purchase credits to make super cheap phone calls to any number in the world. But unlike Skype, the Hangouts Dialer app offers free phone calls to all numbers in USA and Canada, so you can start using the service for free right away.
Once you have the Hangouts Dialer app installed, it will act as a secondary phone dialer
You can copy the U.S. or Canadian number and paste it into the HangoutsDialer app or select a number and choose the Hangouts Dialer app to call from.
If you want the recipient to see your original phone number as the Outbound Caller ID, you can enable it from the Settings tab of the app.
In the Settings menu, tap on your Google account and scroll down to find the Outbound Caller ID tab and enable the toggle switch.
Having the Outbound Caller ID disabled will display your phone call as “Unknown Number” to the recipient.
Also, there are a few other ways to make free calls in US and Canada be it domestic or international with Google Voice, iCall, VoipYo, Ooma, Magicjack, VoIPBuster and more.
Finally, note that most of these free calls require a good internet or WiFi connection to get connected.
